The Timeline is a tool for visualizing time-based events. It is like Google Maps for time-based information. The Timeline covers a time span of 25000 BC to present day. Over 3400 timeline entries provide additional information for users interested in Black History.
You can get to the timeline via a search or via the timeline link in the SSBE section of View Contents.
Once the Timeline had loaded you will be presented with three time bands which you can click and drag horizontally to access the timeline events (Note: you can also use the left and right cursor keys to pan each band).
Events fall into the following categories:
A normal event with a description
A normal event with links to Timeline related materials
A key event with links to Timeline related materialsEvents that have a specific start and end date, like wars, are represented by a red bar the length of the event time. Clicking on any of the above events will display the event details in a popup layer called an event bubble.
Below the timeline there are some further navigation aids to help access the years you are looking for:
To Center timeline by year - enter the year in the box provided and click the Go button. To access B.C. you must use minus symbol before the date.
To Center timeline by decade - click on the appropriate decade link.
To Center timeline by century - click on the appropriate century link.
To View timeline by theme - click on the appropriate theme link, this will only display those themed events. To return to the full timeline click on the View the full timeline link.
You can also add the Timeline to your Marked List or get a Durable URL for the page by using the links in the side navigation.
Clicking on a See related materials link within an event bubble will take you to the corresponding related materials page.
The Timeline Related Materials page lists all resources relevant to a particular time period. Each entry displays the author, title and publication details. You can click on the PDF link to view the resource in PDF format.
You can access an index of all materials related to the Timeline by clicking on the Timeline Related Materials link in View Contents.
